Position: Appointed Board member MCaFHNA

The Maternal, Child and Family Health Nurses Australia (MCaFHNA) organisation is the peak professional body for nurses working in the field of maternal, child and family health.

Our purpose: To promote and advocate for optimal health and wellbeing of young children and their families in their communities through the specialty of maternal, child and family health nursing.

Our mission is to advance the interests of members and act as the national voice of the profession by being the lead advocacy organisation for child and family health.

We are seeking two Appointed Board Directors (external to MCaFHNA membership) with experience in

  • Financial and strategic oversight
  • Legal
  • Communications in particular digital communications

 to join the Board of MCaFHNA to assist with guiding our mission.  

About MCAFHNA

Although MCaFHNA in its current form is a young organisation (changed in 2021 to a company with a direct membership structure), our origins date back to 2001 when we were a federation of state-based organisations.

The role: Working with your fellow Directors you will contribute to and oversee the achievement of strategic objectives, while remaining accountable for the organisation’s overall performance.

Location: Virtual meetings are held bi-monthly.   

Skills required

  • Prior Board and/or Committee experience is highly desirable
  • Extensive professional experience with significant leadership accomplishments in business, government, or the non-profit sector.
  • A strong commitment to MCaFHNA’s purpose.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to guide and review strategy through constructive questioning and suggestions.
  • Demonstrated understanding of external environment relevant to community health, in particular children’s health services.
  • Diplomacy and a natural affinity to develop networks with key stakeholders including state and federal government.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of young children and their families.
