About the PWS Board:

The PWS board has a diverse mix of professional expertise and life experience. All are highly committed to PWS’s purpose and values: Compassion, Integrity, Respect, Advocacy, Empowerment. The Board is the governing body with overall accountability to women in crisis, paid staff, volunteers, donors, partners and supporters. Our Board meets regularly throughout the year with a requirement to attend 80% of ordinary Board meetings and Committee meetings, as well as attendance at the Annual General Meeting and the annual strategy planning day; approximating a contribution of at least ten hours per month.

Directors are appointed to casual vacancies and must stand for election at the following AGM, usually held in November. Following election, Directors are appointed for a three-year term.

Board members are encouraged to bring their expertise and energy to helping PWS grow its impact, influence, and sustainability.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking new members to work alongside our existing Board Directors. The people we are seeking will further strengthen and contribute actively to a full range of Board governance matters and will ideally have the following skills:

- A commitment to diversity, equality and bringing about real and lasting change;

- Critical and strategic thinking and effective decision-making;

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

- A collaborative, kind and positive attitude.

We are seeking new directors with specific expertise in one or more of the following areas:

- Corporate governance and financial management

- Philanthropy and Partnership Management

- Fundraising, relationships and donor care;

- Community engagement;

- Grant writing;

- Corporate governance and risk management.

- Sector experience – eg case management, social services

*Previous experience on the board of a for-purpose organisation is desirable. *

REMUNERATION AND REIMBURSEMENT This is a voluntary position and will not be remunerated.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA As a skills-based Board, Directors are recruited for the skills, experience, and competencies they have developed from their personal and professional activities and which they will continue to develop while on the Board. The Board is seeking to recruit Directors with:

- Relevant experience, skills and directorship qualifications including previous experience working on NFP Boards or committees;

- Experience in, or a sound understanding of, board governance and risk functions;

- Living in or a connection with the community in the Parramatta and surrounding areas;

- A basic understanding of the not-for-profit sector is desirable.

Candidates should have a strong commitment to supporting women and children experiencing domestic violence and homelessness with an intersectional lens through which to address gender justice and social inclusion. We believe that diversity will make us a stronger organisation and we particularly encourage candidates with lived experience of domestic violence / homelessness to apply.
