Any further information about this vacancy:

The Warrandyte Community Retirement Housing Cooperative (WCRHC or the Co-op) was founded by volunteers in the local community to respect and support the desire of Warrandyte’s older members to age within their community.  Warrandyte is a hilly place, with large bush blocks and a somewhat “rural” amenity.  It is not the easiest place in which to grow old, independently.

The Co-op is based on the best not-for-profit principles and governed by its members (residents) in cooperation with elected community volunteers (also members) in that same spirit of enabling respectful, affordable, sustainable, independent and quality ageing in place.

The Co-Op is a Not-For-Profit Cooperative limited by shares. It is governed by the Retirement Villages Act 1986 (Vic), the applicable Retirement Village Regulations in Victoria, and Cooperative National Law. Unlike many other commercially run Retirement Villages, it is organised on a substantially voluntary basis with a community-minded objective. This is a fundamental difference between our Co-Op and other organisations that operate in this sphere in Victoria.

The Co-op owns and operates two 5-unit Villages, "Creekside" (established in 2010) and "Riverside" (established in 2019); these award-winning developments have been fully tenanted throughout their history.

The volunteer Board of Resident and non-Resident (community) members is supported by a part-time (paid) Property Manager and a part-time (paid) administrative officer.  The Board meets bi-monthly in Warrandyte, generally late on a Friday afternoon.  Hybrid meetings would be possible.

We are keen to identify potential community-minded volunteers to join our Board, and are particularly seeking individuals with legal, governance and financial skillsets.  Whilst the routine business of the Co-op is modest in terms of turnover, there is potential for the development of new Villages to add to the property portfolio and such periods call for current skills and expertise across legal and financial impacts in particular.
