Board Member Opportunity – join us on our governance journey

Are you passionate about using your expertise to make a real difference? Do you enjoy engaging in strategic discussions and want to help build something meaningful? We are seeking new board members to join our evolving team at a medium-sized community service organisation.

Who we are:

Central Coast Community Legal Centre (Central Coast CLC) is a not-for-profit community organisation located on Darkinjung Country in Wyong on the NSW Central Coast.

Our purpose is to stand with our Central Coast community to help them face and overcome legal challenges in their lives. We do this by providing free, accessible, and non-judgmental legal services to people living, working, or studying on the NSW Central Coast.

The board is on an exciting journey to become a professional, skills-based governance board that prioritises high performance and strategic impact. We’re not there yet, but we’re building the team that will take us forward. With new leadership and a growing focus on strategy, we need dedicated professionals who can help guide us towards our goal of being a truly effective board that creates positive change for the community.

Why join us?

  • Shape our future direction: Be a part of shaping not just the strategy of our organisation, but the culture and capability of our board itself. Your insights will help us lay the foundations for a high-performing, professional governance team.
  • Collaborate with like-minded leaders: Join a group of board members with diverse skills in finance, law, and IT who share your commitment to raising the bar. We value open dialogue, diverse perspectives, and a willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Be a catalyst for change: This is a chance to bring your expertise to a board that is actively evolving. If you have governance experience—or the willingness to learn—and want to be part of a team striving for best practices, your contributions will be critical to our growth.
  • Balance hard work with a sense of fun: We work hard to find the best solutions, but we also believe in keeping the atmosphere positive. If you appreciate a good laugh and want to enjoy the time we spend together, you’ll fit right in. We know that building a great board and organisation isn’t just about what we achieve, but also how we get there.
  • Impact that matters: Help guide a community service organisation that is making a real difference for the people of the Central Coast. Your strategic thinking and leadership will directly influence our ability to respond to community needs and build a sustainable future.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Individuals with Not-for-Profit management experience or a strong background in governance
  • A passion for strategic thinking and a drive to contribute to the evolution of our board
  • Skills or experience in risk management, financial oversight, or strategic planning are highly valued
  • A desire to join us on our journey to become a high-performing, skills-based board

Note: Previous board experience is not essential if you have a strong interest in learning and applying governance principles.

What’s the commitment?

  • General board member: ~10 hours per month
  • Executive board member: ~20 hours per month
  • We meet monthly on Tuesdays at 5.30 pm

Ready to help us get there?

We are looking for passionate professionals who are eager to roll up their sleeves, contribute their skills and insights, and enjoy the journey along the way. If this sounds like the right fit for you, I’d love to have a conversation.

Stay safe.

Chair, Central Coast CLC
