About Us:
We Are Australia is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting international students who have been victims of crime. We provide legal aid, mental health support, and emergency financial assistance, among other services, to help these students rebuild their lives. We also run educational programs that promote tolerance and understanding, particularly through our flagship project, the Minh Story Educational Tour.
We are seeking a dedicated Volunteer Secretary to join our Board of Directors. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about governance and making a positive impact on the lives of international students.
Position Overview:
As the Secretary of We Are Australia, you will play a key role in ensuring our Board operates effectively and in accordance with all legal and governance requirements. You will be responsible for administrative support and document management while assisting in organising Board meetings and maintaining proper records.
Responsibilities:
- Scheduling and preparing Board meetings, including agenda preparation and distribution.
- Taking accurate minutes during meetings and ensuring they are distributed to Board members.
- Maintaining proper records, including Board resolutions, compliance documentation, and legal filings.
- Filing annual reports and updating records with relevant regulatory bodies such as ASIC and ACNC.
- Ensuring the Board complies with its governance responsibilities.
- Supporting the President and other Directors with necessary governance and administrative duties.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in an administrative or secretarial role is desirable.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with governance in not-for-profit organizations is a bonus but not essential.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office or similar tools.
- A passion for supporting international students and a commitment to our mission.
Time Commitment:
This is a volunteer role requiring approximately 4-6 hours per month. Board meetings occur quarterly, and ad-hoc work will be required in between meetings. Flexibility in scheduling is offered, with most meetings held virtually.
