Position Description

The CMHA (Community Mental Health Australia) is seeking to appoint an experienced professional to Chair its Finance, Audit and Risk Management (FARM) Committee to support the Board in the discharge of its obligations. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge in the not-for-profit or membership sector, financial management expertise and some exposure to financial reporting. Members of the FARM Committee are responsible for supporting the Chair of the FARM Committee and the CMHA Board in fulfilling their responsibilities regarding the financial governance of the CMHA.

Specifically, the FARM Committee will review financial statements and performance and on-going financial viability of the organisation.  They will also review the performance and independence of the external audit, develop and monitor the CMHA investment strategy and have oversight of the finances of all the CMHA Grant Projects.

The CMHA is a coalition of the peak state and territory community mental health organisations and was established to provide leadership and direction to promote the importance and benefits of community mental health and recovery services across Australia.

CMHA provides a unified voice for several hundred community managed organisations CMOs including organisations that are peak bodies for people with lived experience (carers and consumers) and many other CMOs who are increasing incorporating in service design, delivery, management and governance people with lived and living experience of mental health issues and challenges.

Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will have relevant experience both commercially and serving on a committee / Board, will be tertiary qualified in a finance related field and will preferably have governance experience / qualifications.

The committee meets at least quarterly for approximately 1.5 hours and the Treasurer will also have to attend Board meetings and the AGM.  Board meetings are also held at least quarterly for approximately 1.5 hours.  A great opportunity to be part of an organisation that truly supports the mental health and wellbeing of all Australians.

Commitment

  • Attending (remotely) six Board meetings per year.
  • Reviewing financial reports prior to Board meetings.
  • Attending (remotely) five FARM Committee meetings per year.
  • Involvement in annual financial audit.
