An outstanding opportunity to impact on programs that tackle climate change, the protection and restoration of biodiversity and sustainable development in one of Australia’s most desirable and fastest-growing regions.

The Board of the Western Port Biosphere Foundation is seeking expressions of interest for the appointment of two honorary directors.

Our organisation is privileged to be responsible for stewardship of the Mornington Peninsula and Western Port Biosphere Reserve, one of 759 special places around the world and only five in Australia to be designated and recognised by UNESCO as a member of its international Biosphere network.

Our purpose is to “inspire the future by connecting people with nature today”. We link people and resources to deliver projects that benefit the community and the natural environment, and we aim to be an internationally recognised leader in developing and implementing the UNESCO biosphere model.

About you

No matter what your background or culture, we are keen to hear from you if your values and aspirations for the climate and the environment and your belief in their importance to the wellbeing of future generations align with ours.

You will bring sound professional skills and experience to our board and a collegiate approach to developing solutions to challenging issues and projects. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the following areas would be especially valued:

  • data science and cybersecurity
  • natural resources management and/or sustainable agriculture
  • legal and compliance
  • fundraising, philanthropy and corporate sponsorship
  • people and culture (HR)

You will join a group of people totally committed to advocating for action on climate and biodiversity and overseeing projects and community partnerships that support sustainable living. The term of the appointment is three years.

Your commitment

The board meets eight times per year, with two face-to-face meetings scheduled. Directors are expected to serve on at least one board sub-committee (held online) and to attend an annual strategy day. There are other occasions where directors are encouraged to attend.
