About Us:
Ocean Mind aims to enrich young people’s mental health, relationships, and potential through surfing. Our programs improve the wellbeing of young people by developing life skills and fostering the ability to create beneficial relationships while increasing the capacity of the community to support young people’s mental health. We offer therapeutic surfing programs using an evidence-based model, which has demonstrated outstanding results in helping young people who are experiencing difficulties. The Role:
Ocean Mind is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Board Chair who can support the growth of Ocean Mind through providing good governance and leadership.
We are interested in talking with exceptional leaders who have experience chairing growing organisations. If you are interested in serving on a hard-working board of Directors, we are particularly seeking expressions of interest from individuals with professional skills in at least one of the following areas:
- Governance experience on a board of a similar, fast-growing organisation
- Leadership or Chairing of similar organisaitons
- Ability to expand Ocean Mind's network in the mental health and corporate communities
- Connection to potential funding networks to support Ocean Mind
The Chair will provide inclusive and strategic leadership to Ocean Mind, ensuring that Board members and the CEO fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of Ocean Mind. The Chair will also support, and, where appropriate, challenge the CEO and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the CEO to achieve agreed objectives. The Chair will act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity in partnership with the CEO.
Commitment:
The Chair is expected to commit to a minimum of 2 years in the role and can expect to spend 6-8 hours per month on average supporting the organisation’s growth, including board meetings and preparation, regular meetings with the CEO and representing Ocean Mind at events and meetings with key stakeholders
