The Alfred's Bushfire Tragedy Response

The Alfred Foundation - The Alfred Hospital - The Victorian Adult Burns Service (VABS): The Alfred's Bushfire Tragedy Response

The Alfred, as the state-wide provider of burns care for all adults with complex major burn injuries, received 21 patients from Victoria's devastating fires on the weekend. Nine of these patients are being cared for in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit and 11 are being treated in the burns unit. While one patient was discharged, many will require ongoing treatment over the coming weeks and months.

It is unclear whether the hospital will be receiving further patients from the bushfires, but we are advised that 25 fires remain active across the state.

Education and opportunities for young people from Burma

The Build Project Australia: Education and opportunities for young people from Burma

We work with young people who have been forced to leave Burma and now live in Thailand as displaced people with little access to further education and other basic rights. These young people are full of ideas for smart solutions which will help them and their communities, but they need outside help to make their vision a reality.

Your money can help these young people from Burma to build their future through education and skills-based training.

In consultation with a determined group of students, the Build Project has established the Institute of Academic and Practical Studies (IAPS), a residential centre for 17-23 year olds in Mae Sot, Thailand. IAPS provides training (mostly delivered in English) in a range of subjects, including Thai, English language, computer skills, office administration, social sciences and community development.

This education and training will enable students to make the most of the opportunities that are available to them, build positive connections in Thai society, and create positive change within their marginalised community.

The Build Project and IAPS are volunteer-run, non-profit organisations funded entirely by donations.

Your donation will help to provide:

  • food, boarding and personal essentials for students
  • teaching materials, including textbooks and other educational supplies
  • classroom computers and internet access

Mirabel Education for Life Program

The Mirabel Foundation: Mirabel Education for Life Program

The Mirabel Education for Life Program had been designed specifically to assist children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use. The aim of the program is to assist children to progress their educational level to an equivalent to their peers while increasing their self esteem and nurturing a positive outlook to learning and education. It is the result of much research, experience and consultation. To date, children in these circumstances have rarely been offered the educational assistance they desperately require to succeed at school.
