To provide a source of training and development for all ages from teens to mature age - in Performance by creating, working, assessing in all forms/diversity of Perfoming Arts. By regular workshops, specific programmes for writers/creators of new works, community programmes for technical and staging of Perfoming Arts, providing opportunities for all cultural groups
The Intent of Camberwell Theatre Company Inc:
Over the past 28 years, formerly branded as Camberwell Youth Theatre Inc., but now embodied as Camberwell Theatre Company Inc. the Theatre has been a training gropund for young performers, practitioners of THeatre, (music, dance, mime, comedy, drama, incl management and creative work.
A broad spectrum of involvement: Local Government Youth and Cultural Festivals, Staging and conduct of a yearly One Act Play Competition.
Musical Theatre some 40 productions: Drama and Comedy some 50 productions from Shakespeare to Williamson.
Other works include, Cabaret, Holiday Workshops, Country Tours of amateur actors/production team
for weekend and 10 day seasons, Participation in various annual country Play/Cultural Festivals. Maintaining and providing a resource library of original plays by playwrights throughout Vic and parts of South East Australia.
Recent Accomplishments of Camberwell Theatre Company Inc:
*A 10 performance season of a play about Aussie rules - staged to help rural clubs raise funds at their centres, such as Maryborough, Mansfield, Tatura, Rochester, Rupanyup, and five more
*Playwrights Competition 2001 - 60 entries with 3 winners works being staged and awards presented
*Training of young Directors in Performance by providing the vehicle/programme
* Two week season of "Equus" by Peter Shafer with our young actor being chosen for training at California University - currently in residence.
Current Activities of Camberwell Theatre Company Inc:
*Updating and mainataining of Playwrights work and location directory.
*Re-establishing our Resource and Training/ Rehearsal centre after losing occupancy of our former centre.
*In rehearsal for "Agnes of God" by John Pielmeier and Directed by Ronald Denson for two season, one at Kingston Arts Centre Moorabbin and the second at Richmond Library Theatrette.
* Preparing for Playwrights Competition 2002
