As ONE we aim to empower & support people of Northern Communities to be successful.
The Intent of ONE:
The Organisation for Northern Enterprise, formed in late 2000, is managed by volunteers from the Northern Region of Adelaide.
It aim is to address, at a community level the impact of the changing nature of work & welfare. It operates a not for profit Community Work & Information Bank which is a social enterprise that's helps people and contributes to the success of the local community in many of ways.
ONE has evolved through a partnership approach of the local residents, State & Local Government, Education and Business. It addresses the challenges faced by volunteers themselves including unemployment, disability, cultural diversity, redundancy, isolation, welfare dependency, family inclusiveness, youth and mature age issues. It provides a sense of worth, self esteem, responsibility, networks, personal development, learning, ownership and a sense of pride.
ONE needs assistance and mentoring to ensure its volunteer Management Committee and members have the skills and knowledge to continue to grow and develop personally and fulfil their role as leaders in their community.
Recent Accomplishments of ONE:
2001 has seen the Organisation consolidate, build a strong foundation and develop networks, which will be needed to facilitate new membership and future initiatives.
Many members have gone onto further study, part time & full time employment and community involvement. We have 15 active members and 4 operating clusters
Our outcomes & KPI's consist of new members, meeting attendance, funding, new groups & initiatives.
One has secured FACS funding to run ten 4 day ‘Enterprising Community' workshops, this program has developed as a result of our reflection, learning & experience, we see these as being a catalyst for Community Leadership, establishing Community Projects which could lead to Community Enterprise.
A new cluster has been added to the Organisation - YOY Youth Organising Youth, the youth group (14-18year olds who have left school) meets weekly with adult mentors to discuss & organise enterprising activities that develop work opportunities through community business & local networks. These activities are designed to promote skills building, access to accredited training, economic outcomes and social/community skill building.
They are currently involved with
Ø Survey work for the Lyell McEwin Hospital
Ø ‘Freedom for Bikes' fixing bikes for refugee children
Ø Community Carols & fireworks - assistance with setting up and crowd control for Santa and his admirers.
The Learning Cluster continues to work in local High Schools with ‘Youth at risk' and there are trainers now working in partnership with Indigenous youth, Tafe & CDEP delivering accredited training.
We are working closely with a local school and Community Centre to integrate our services and foster community involvement.
Working at the coalface in an active way has meant we have learnt some valuable lessons about community capacity and the infrastructure that is needed to support community development.
We are keen to participate and foster genuine partnership between all sectors, this is needed for our initiatives, community development and to ensure sustainable outcomes.
Current Activities of ONE:
· We deliver enterprise & life skills training to ‘Youth at Risk'.
· We offer a 4 day workshop on personal development & life management skills to the wider community.
· We are partnering with other providers to delivery flexible, integrated learning experiences.
· We provide personnel for survey work.
· We are developing asset-mapping data on the Northern Area.
