The Society was formed on the 1st January 1979 with the aim to promote, encourage and foster the study, science and knowledge of genealogy.   This main objective encompasses many other secondary objectives, such as transcribing and indexing records, and provides a forum for people with a common interest in family history.

The Intent of W.A Genealogical Society:

The Western Australian Genealogical Society (WAGS) is the foremost centre for genealogy and family history research in Perth, Western Australia. We have approximatley 2000 enthusiastic members throughout Australia (and some from overseas).

We are here to help you with your family history, not just your West Australian ancestors but from all over the world.

Recent Accomplishments of W.A Genealogical Society:

In 2009 we celbrate our 30th anniversary and have had many activities and seminars during the year to celbrate this event.

Current Activities of W.A Genealogical Society:

We have a large family history lending Library which enables members to borrow books on their areas of interest and or research.  Our Library enables members and visitors to conduct their own research using the facilities, which include; Books, CD-ROM's microfiche, microfilm, and connections to the Internet.

Participation in W.A Genealogical Society:

Joining the group is restricted to: over 18yrs old

Meeting Venue:

our library is at units 4,5 and 6, 48 May St Bayswater

The venue is wheelchair accessible.

Meeting Times:

Our Library is open on Monday (9:30 - 9pm), Wednesday - Friday (9:30 - 2:30pm) and Saturday (1-5pm) and then on the 2nd Sunday of each month (1-5pm). 

On Tuesdays we often have education courses and our special  interest groups meet on Saturdays or Sundays.

Membership Fees:

$12 joining fee and

$50 per year for individual or

$70 per year for joint member
