The purpose of VANISH is :

to relieve the suffering and distress of people who have experienced adoption, state wardship, donor assisted reproduction or other separation from family, by providing a formal structure through which to deliver efficient and effective advice, search, counselling and support service.

VANISH provides information and support for those involved with adoption, children born from donor programs and Forgotten Australians (former Victorian wards of state, or people that were voluntarily placed in institutions or foster care.). Services include:

For people affected by adoption:

• search assistance to adopted people with the search for birth relatives
• support to birth parents in obtaining information regarding children they have relinquished
• support to all parties affected by adoption

For Forgotten Australians:

• Counselling: VANISH brokers counselling funds and can organise on-going counselling
• Life Skills: payment for education and training to develop skills
• Reunion Travel Fund: to enable FA to meet newly found birth relatives
• Workshops: Ranging from computers to writing and art therapy classes
• Search assistance: search for siblings and other family members
• Practical Support: such as assistance with filling out forms etc.,

For People affected by Donor Conception:

• Support with issues arising from donor conception
• Referral to the Infertility Treatment Authority

Support groups:

• Adopted persons: Fourth Tuesday each month -  7.30pm
• Mixed group (Adopted persons, natural parents, Adoptive Families and donor conceived): Second Tuesday of each month - 7.30pm
