Globally, up to 185 million people are blind or vision impaired simply because they don't have glasses! ICEE is an Australian based not-for-profit organisation, whose aim is to eliminate blindness and impaired vision due to uncorrected refractive error - a technical way of saying a person needs a pair of glasses to see. ICEE's philosophy is best summed up by the formula: trained eyecare personnel + affordable glasses = a person who can see. ICEE is endorsed by the Optometrists Association Australia and is a member of the Australian Council for International Development.

The Intent of ICEE - International Centre for Eyecare Education:

ICEE is a member of Vision 2020, the global initiative of the World Health Organisation, which aims to eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020. ICEE provides eyecare services and training programs in Africa, South East Asia, Western Pacific and Indigenous Australia.

Recent Accomplishments of ICEE - International Centre for Eyecare Education:

Founded in 1998, with its headquarters at the University of New South Wales, ICEE aims to eliminate avoidable blindness by delevoping sustainable solutions for disadvantages communities in serious need of eyecare.
ICEE provides eye examinations and glasses; trains and equips optometrists, nurses and eyecare personnel; and helps develop the infrastructure and community education required to develop sustainability in communities.

Current Activities of ICEE - International Centre for Eyecare Education:

On the last Friday in February of each year, ICEE conducts National Sunnies for Sight Day. Participants are asked to donate a gold coin by wearing sunglasses for the day or by ordering 'sunnies' merchandise to sell in your workplace. Funds go directly towards supporting ICEE's blindness prevention projects in Australia and overseas. To register, please visit www.sunniesforsight.org or call 1300 66 42 33
