The Frances Burke Textile Resource Centre (FBTRC), RMIT Fashion and Textiles, is a networking environment that facilitates and supports academic and community enquiry, discourse, research, documentation and information dissemination which extends the understanding of, and gives contemporary relevance to, Australia's rich cultural heritage of fashion and textile design. Through its diverse activities the Centre pays tribute to the achievements and work of individuals and organisations who have contributed to fashion and textiles in Australia. Activities and services include lecture programs, exhibitions, publications, student and volunteer placements, access to holdings, and a dynamic and unique website 'cyberfibres': online register of Australian fashion and textile design http://www.cybferfibres.rmit.edu.au. The FBTRC collection is recognised by RMIT University as one of national significance. The Centre fosters links and collaborative initiatives with Australian and international cultural and community networks. The Frances Burke Textile Resource Centre is unique in Australia for its focus on, and recognition and preservation of, Australia's moveable cultural heritage in the areas of fashion and textile design.
