Older Women's Network Queensland Inc.(OWN (Qld) encourages life enrichment, mutual support & companionship amongst older women. OWN(Qld) also promotes healthy ageing using a grant from Qld Health through the Nat. Women's Health Program.

OWN(Qld) encourages discussion and action about ageism, racism and sexism. It lobbies for a fairer deal on issues affecting older women such as income, security, work opportunities, housing, health, home and community care, support and transport.

OWN(Qld) provides information and education and works to enhance the positive image of older women.

OWN is affiliated with the national body OWN (Australia).  Other affiliates to OWN (Australia) are in Western Australia, Victoria, ACT and NSW.  Other countries also have organizations for older women.

The Queensland Governor is OWN (Qld)'s Patron.

The Intent of Older Women's Network QLD Inc :

Speakers,discussion and workshops on all topics that affect older women ie health, transport, housing, financial management, dealing with change, legal issues. These topics are chosen by members in each branch or group and generally follow the Women Growing Older Program.

The Management Committee assisted by the Community Development Worker and Office Administrator support the groups and encourage community participation and action. Management Committee members are invited to represent older women at Govt. forums and meetings.

Recent Accomplishments of Older Women's Network QLD Inc :

OWN (Qld) holds activities to celebrate International Women's Day, Seniors' Week and the Christmas holiday season. OWN (Qld) also has a friendship and support day where regional and local convenors gather to discuss issues that can be presented to government representatives.  

Head office is situted in New Farm where some events are held. Local  groups in Annerley, Mitchelton, Brisbane, Zillmere, Logan, Gold Cost, Gympie and Mackay along with other smaller groups organize individual activities.    .

Current Activities of Older Women's Network QLD Inc :

OWN (Qld) Inc. produces a quarterly newsletter and maintains a website.    The activcities of each branch or group is listed in the newsletter  below a short report of their activities.

The Management Committee and members represent OWN on reference groups, at forums and meetings in the interests of older women in Qld.  

Participation in Older Women's Network QLD Inc :

Joining the group is restricted to: OWN (Qld) Inc is targeted at women over the age of 40 and is a women-only organization.

Meeting Venue:

Most ativities are held in accessible venues close to branch or groups, however, special events, new activities and expression of interest for new groups will be held where it is most appropriate to the activity.

The venue is wheelchair accessible.

Membership Fees:

$14 per financial year with a reduced membership for those joining midway through the financial year.
